Our main area is 40 kilometers east of Coimbra and includes the market towns of Arganil and Coja. The Atlantic coast with its long white beaches, is only a 1 hour drive from us, and there is plenty of scope for hiking, horse riding, boating, swimming, and even skiing on the Serra da Estrela mountains. This is the real Portugal. Mountains, rivers, pine and eucalyptus forests are abundant in this beautiful, unspoilt area, and the scenery is breathtaking. There are many fluvial (or river) beaches for cooling off in fresh water, and most have restaurants and cafes/bars alongside.
This lush, green region is still unspoilt by tourism and crime and offers an insight into the real Portugal where the locals are extremely friendly and helpful. Olive trees and grapevines are predominant, and orange, lemon, kiwi, and other fruit trees grow well in this wonderful climate.
Historic buildings, monuments, churches and cathedrals are found easily here, and the Roman ruins at Conimbriga, south of Coimbra are worth a visit .
